Global Hand Cameroon recently participated in a five-day training seminar organized under the project “Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance and Recovery Capacities in Cameroon”. The training was held at the Buea Council and brought together Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and community leaders from various sectors committed to promoting community resilience and sustainable development.
The project is jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Cameroon through the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT). The initiative aims to strengthen local capacities in disaster risk governance, climate change adaptation, and community-based recovery mechanisms. The seminar comprised of three days of intensive theoretical sessions followed by two days of fieldwork.
As an organization committed to community development, environmental protection, and humanitarian action, GLOHA recognizes the significance of strengthening local capacities to address the growing impacts of climate change and disaster risks. The knowledge gained from this seminar will contribute significantly to the organization’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities and promote sustainable risk management practices.
At the conclusion of the training, GLOHA expressed its readiness to collaborate with other conservation partners like the Mount Cameroon National Park (MCNP) in enhancing awareness and sensitization campaigns targeting populations living in potential risk zones within and around the park’s periphery. This collaboration will focus on educating communities on disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation measures, environmental conservation, and early warning systems to reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen resilience.
GLOHA remains committed to working alongside government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and local communities to foster a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future for all. Together, we can build resilient communities capable of anticipating, adapting to, and recovering from disasters and climate-related challenges.
